Does anyone know that in 1888 if a child was born in, say, Tower Hamlets, could the birth have been registered by Grandparents in Surrey? |

The birth can be registered anywhere but it will be filed in the district of birth. |

It's possible that the registration did not reach the GRO so it would be worth contacting the local office. |

It can happen that the birth is not where you expect. |

My great grandmother had a child 'out of wedlock' and went from a small village in Suffolk (where the family had lived for generations) to relatives in Grimsby to have her - hence the chld is registered in Grimsby. |
