Mick,
I spent an hour this afternoon coming to the same conclusion as you have which is why I asked if we can have a stake in the ground to work from.
Until then I think we are all a bit stymied.
Kathlyn - over to you.....

I am not sure at the moment why you think the Jane Taylor living with her sister in law in the 1891 census may be your Jane Mawdsley other that she fits the criteria for first name, birthplace and year.
I did check to see if there were any marriages between the Mawdsley and Massie, Massey, Massy familes and could find none. A similar position exists for the Mawdsley/Ruberts families. This was to try to establish if the sister in the 1891 census was your Jane Mawdsley's sister.
I did try tracking who appears to be your Jane Mawdsley in the various censi. There is one in the 1861 where she is living with her parents and apparently another record in the 1871 where she is a servant in Walton St Mary. After that she disappears. I have not found her in the 1881 census and no relevant deaths are recorded between 1871-1881.
The only possibility I have come to at the moment is that she probably married between 1871-1881. There are a number of marriages for Jane Mawdsleys in the county of Lancashire during this period. Given her age during this period would have been 19-29 this would seem to be the most natural course of events.

Just come back on here. So, given Mick's find it does look as though the Jane who married the Blacksmith was not the one born in Kirkby in 1854.
Following on from Ann's question on Jane's maiden name could you perhaps confirm those bits of information you have which you believe are correct. I think the problem we have here is in trying to put a stake in the ground, as it where to work from.
|
please could you tell us how you arrived at Jane's maiden name?
speculation

There is a Jane Taylor the wife of William Taylor (a grocer and Blacksmith) living a 2 Lorne St, Wigan in the 1891 census. Her age is given as 33 born c1858. They have one daughter Alice c1883.
Would this be your missing Jane?
Are you certain the Jane you mention in your original message is the correct Jane?

If I could prove that William Taylor, who was a blacksmith, died prior to 1891, this would give more weight to this Jane being mine.
Jane was born in Kirkby, lancashire in 1854, and was married in Wigan in 1881.

Having read your post a couple of times, I am not sure what it is you are trying to prove.
Where were you family from? This is a Southport name isn't it?

I a trying to find info on my great aunt. She is recorded on the 1891 census as Jane Taylor, a widow and living in the household of her sister and her age is 39.(1852)
I have obtained a marriage cert (on speculation) for a Jane Mawdsley to a William Taylor in Wigan November 1881, her age is 24 (1857).
I could not find any other marriage for a Jane Mawdsley to a mr. Taylor, thats why I obtained the cert i have.
Jane records her fathers as James mawdsley, (yes) and his occupation as Engine man. He worked in a quarry so I suppose that would fit.
As she was married for such a short time and did not have any children recorded with her in the 1891 census, I assume none were born, or died young.
I need to prove this is "my" Jane. I have looked for the death of a William Taylor between 1881 and 1891 and have found several but where do I go from there?????
Another headache comeing on as I gulp down paracetamol!!!
Thanks for ay help
Kathlyn
