There used to be an expression "Took off on the High Seas", meaning to disappear without notice. Maybe High Seas Divorce is a euphamism for desertion? |

There's no divorce listed in the National Archives index to divorces. |

The only courts which sits on the high seas are military courts martial, who lack jurisdiction over divorces. It's possible he was on the high seas when his land based divorce was finalized. |

I have been informed that my grandfather had a high seas divorce, but have been unable to find out anything . Does anyone know whether they existed. His divorce was somewhere between 1915-1918 |
