About 70% of the army service records and pension records got burnt during WW2, but most service men got at least one campaign medal, and these medal cards are intact. |

Steph, I assume you still have some Ancestry time left? Run cursor over "search" box at the top, a menu will drop down including military. Click on this and start your search. Hope you have an unusual name, but either way good luck! |

Doesnt quite match your criteria of free, but try ancestry - they have WW1 records. We found my wife's grandfather on there. |

Hi I have recently found a new member of my family tree, and I was just wondering is there any way, possibly free, that I could find out if he was involved in the first world war? and what date he joined etc? I know that he didnt die during the war, but it would help to know as I was trying to look for possible children of his. |
