I wonder if anyone was watching BBC breakfast a couple of days ago when they were discussing birth records which are(or perhaps soon will be) available on Ancestry. i was in morning mode and obviously not paying full attention. Did anyone catch it? It sounded like the full certificates may be going online as they mentioned being able to find the name of mother , father and mothr's maden name. I have looked on Ancestry and Googled but drawn a blank. Was anyone else paying moer attention than me please? Alice |

So, how come the head of Ancestry, who was on the programme, said that their BMD indexes were fully searchable? |

there is a very long thread on this on the General board, if you go to Ancestry and look at their press release for this week you will see that it is just the indexes that are available i.e. not certs or images of certs etc as apparently people were led to believe, in fact the press release is virtually identical to one issued in Feb so it is nothing new! |

also, I have just looked on the BMDs on ancestry and this is what it says for marriages, i.e. only searchable for what is already on freebmd and for 1984 on: |

Looks like Ancestry is behind with transferring marriage transcriptions from freebmd which is now almost complete for the 1920s. |

Well Mad Alice, I must have got the wrong end of the stick too as I thought I'd at long last be able to view who my grandads parents were!! |

Thank you all for your replies - glad I was not imagining things and apparently was listening despite the hour! |
