I've given you the wrong spelling Hilary, it is called Aldersbrook Receiving Homes, built in 1910 by West Ham Guardians before being taken over by East Ham County Borough in the 1930's, so hopefully there should be some records on your Mother. I think the council is now either called Newham or Waltham Forest. |

There was an Orphanage/ Children's Home in that area , I believe it was part of the West Ham Union. It was called Aldersbrooke. There is a lot of detail, photograps etc on the wonderful Workhouse site.....can't remember that address but I'm sure someone will oblige |

My late mother (Lilian Ruby Francis) was placed in a London orphange sometime after 1932 and was then evacuated to Cornwall during the 2nd world war. I am trying to find her placement records and have written to Barnardos but they are unable to trace her. |
