There is a Morrison Street in Gateshead not too far from the River Tyne in what I think is known as Newburn

Finally, lets go back to the marr of Joseph Atkinson + Alice Storey which we found out was at St Michael's Newburn in 1838q3
Now, from the blue bar at top at the LDS site, select Search Records - Record Search Pilot.

[This has the GRO(I) index thru 1958, but NI is excluded after 1922. One can buy certs from:

Actually, if one is happy with uncertified copies of the register images, they're 40% off for Eire.
The only available Irish census that survive (apart from the odd fragment) are 1901 1911

What we're after now is the Durham Bishop's transcripts for Newburn 1819-1856 image 419 of 749.. (The BTs were the church's own back-up copy.)
I'm a bit surprised - I did expect the same info I'ld see on a regular m.cert.
Incidentally, re your witness Wm Moore - do you notice he's on half of the entries displayed here. My guess is he's the parish clerk, or some guy who did odd jobs round the church, and picked up tips by acting as a witness.

I don't know where Morrison St was, nor Mawson St. These, and Bryson Terr are all that seem to be in this Enumeration District. (I did notice some other Atkinsons and Storeys though.) Bryson Ter was abt 200m S of the modern Warwick St, between Portland Rd and the Ouseburn.

I'm mightily impressed and at the same time disapointed at my apparent inability to find these results.

A search on FreeBMD - lets look at the marr Christine iP found for Joseph Atkinson + Alice Storey. We can follow Mrs B's earlier instructions, and find:

(Actually, what FreeBMD looks for re spouse is that they're on the same page, so we'ld get the same hit if we looked for Joseph Atkinson with his spouse = Thomas Laidler)

If we click on the page # (=195), we get the info Christine iP posted.
If we click on the rego district (=Castle Ward), we see:

The district Castle Ward is in the county of Northumberland; information about it can be found "here".

Click on the "here" link gives a list of townships and parishes in Castle Ward rego D, and lists

Sub-districts : Gosforth; Newburn; Ponteland; Stamfordham

NB It's easy now to make the entries for the search, but really we wouldn't know if we're looking for Storey or Story, or Dodd or Dodds, etc. We can use wildcards after the first 3 characters, so Stor*y and Dod* would get them all (plus Stornaway and Dodson etc).

Transcriptions on FreeBMD start to thin out in the 1930s, but (especially if you know exactly who and roughly when) you can check the images of the index to find the GRO ref you'ld need for a b.cert up to 1960.

Normally, all one gets from FreeBMDs transcription of the GRO index is a page full of unpaired brides and grooms. However, the GRO isn't the only place one can buy an m.cert from - one can also buy it from the local rego office where the event occured, and some local ROs have their own indices on-line. (GR probably just place an order with the GRO for you, and charge an ordering fee - I don't know, never having ordered one thru them). Anyway, there's many local indices in the NE that are at least partially on-line, see:

I have Janet Alice Dodds marriage certificate to my grand father.
Her father was a chair maker !

My Fathers side of the tree is harder because he was Irish.

Definitely looks like the September qtr 1838 marriage in Castle Ward is the right one for your great great grandparents.

Told you David that someone would be able to help if you gave the names. It's so much easier with a few pairs of eyes looking for information.

I searched for one of the others to find the surname as I originally thought it was Dodds.

My mothers father, my grand father was Thomas Atkinsinson 1880-1958 son of John, son of Joseph.

Janet Alice Dodds nee Stewart (widow) was his second wife, his first being Margaret Cunningham

Give us the names you are looking for. Everyone on here has ways and means of finding info, depending on what subscriptions they have and to what sites. We might save you spending anything at all, all alternatively might know of ways to get certificates checked before you pay for them. There are all sorts of sites than can help and someone on here will know about them. Names and dates please are needed.

I would say again that if you want to give the names of the couple and any information you know about them to help find the marriage, someone will try to look for you.

Most people on here use FreeBMD or Ancestry to search for births, marriages and deaths. Searching using GR is not the most economical way to search records.

Also...

If your unsure of the females christian name but think you have found the correct district and time frame....you can order the cert with just putting the mans name.

GRO will send the correct marriage for that man.
