Hello super detectives- I've got a tricky one that's driving me mad! Have only just started with this family but have already hit problems. |

Is this the 1901 census you found? |

Yes thanks Roy- thats the 1901 record- I had realised that Charles was not the father- I thought perhaps brother? but I could do with finding this family on the 1891 to confirm it. |

Roy- I obviously need to start ordering, but can I just ask- if Frederick had died in 1893, would Rebecca have listed her father as deceased on her marriage? |

The marriage cert you have may not give her father as deceased but it all depends on what and how the question was asked |

Oh Alice- you are a Star!!! I have been going mad seaching for that record- and it confirms that Charles (Charley) is Emma's son- so there is hope that their father was Frederick- may be he was living else where?? I will have to search. |

Just another thing- in 1911 Rebecca is living in Moseley St, and have just noticed the 1891 census is listed at Moseley St!! I'm feeling quite positive about this! |

I feel like crying!! This has been swimming around in my brain for so long- and now I have real possibilities. |

If they didn't marry until 1879, do you think Emma's first daughter (on 1891 census) was from another marriage? OOooh so many questions. I'll go and have a look. |

Now found Emma age 24 on the 1881 census- listed as married but still no husband!! - A son Harry Powell 4, and Charles 1. It seems her eldest daughter Emma is a visitor with a Bowkes family. |
