You may well be aware that you can check out some of the National Archives holdings online by going on the site NationalarchivesDOTgovDOTuk /documentsonline or /a2a. Well you can also do this on some foreign national archive websites too. |

If you've got ancestry you can check their holdings by logging into their site for that country. Just replace the .co.uk or .com with .fr for France, .de for Germany etc |

For Australia try www.naa.gov.au - it's mainly post-federation (i.e. after 1901). Some documents are available online (free) - including all WW1 attestations. |
