I wonder if it's worth looking for emmigration / travel details for Rita and or her husband.... and possibly for the maiden aunt's visits to South Africa.
These would perhaps give a timescale of marriage.?

Von, A Big Thankyou for the Registry Office info, for both Cardiff & Sturminster, I'll try both this afternoon.
Gwyn, - Thanks for that info, any idea where I should look for the emmigration/travel details, the maiden aunt travel might be my best bet, don't you think?
Again many thanks for your help, I wouldn't have thought of these places to look. l'll let you know how I get on.

The Findmypast site might have travel details, depending when it was.
It is a pay to view site, but sometimes kind folk who have a subscription will look up a specific request to help others.
You could post a request on the Records Board, with details of names, place etc.
