Most of my ancestors seem to appear on the census with lodgers. As they are mainly ag labs themselves I'm assuming they wouldn't have owned their accommodation so how would this work? Would they sublet? And who are they likely to rent from? i have no knowledge of these things at all and would love to know more about how they actually lived. |

A lot of people took in paying lodgers. They lived with the family and paid a weekly sum for their keep. |

So family members could be lodgers? That makes me look at some census returns in a new light - didn't think of that. Thanks. |
