Hi All,
You still need to be careful with IGI records. I recently found a marriage on IGI with a Batch number but no Film Number. Going to my local IGI Family center I eventually got a film Number. It was available at the IGI center in Exhibition Road. When examined it was for Banns, not a marriage. In fact the marriage did not proceed which has helped me quite a lot. I guess you still have to really check everything and not take computer printouts as correct. Regards Stuart

Thanks Jill for your reply. At least I can go to the LIbrary now with more of an idea of dates and names.
Thanks again. Alison

Submitted records are those submitted by people. Some of them will be perfectly OK some will not so to be on the safe side treat them with caution.
Extracted records are taken from the parish records and - barring mistranscriptions - will be as correct as any other note from a parish register.

Evening Ladies & Gents
I've recently seen a thread on the boards somewhere regarding the meanings of IGI findings, but can't for the life of me find it. So if someone could explain please, it would be very much appreciated. So here goes !
When searching IGI some records come up as submitted and some have a Batch No and Source Call No.
Am I right in thinking that the submitted records could be like chinese whispers and not be correct and that the Batch No / Source Call No ones are more correct than not.
I am getting back to the late 1600's and have found what I think to be my Husband's 7 x Grandfather (name and YOB adds up with what I have), only there are other siblings on IGI, but wanted to be sure before I added anything to my tree.
Thank You Alison
