I would hazard a guess at a baby that was born to term but low birthweight due to an under developed placenta. There is a medical term for this (which I can't remeber) and it is rare nowadays because of scans, and monitoring etc |

I was just thinking, perhaps the baby was premature too? Even now I think early babies can have trouble with feeding - if they were born a bit early (say three or four weeks) and weren't very heavy, perhaps they couldn't feed properly either? |

Hi Joan and Gwyn - how clever of you both!!! it DOES say 'no pm' !! the doctor must have been very sure of his diagnosis and that the circumstances were not suspicious. I wonder if the baby was early and didn't feed, or was sick a lot and the doctor had been in constant attendance over the 2 days. The family were not poor and would have been able to afford the best medical care. |

Hi Joan, thanks, that confirms what I found. I am just a little puzzled that this could happen in 2 days from birth? |
