Thanks for all suggestions, it looks like I might have to ask a professional genealogist to unravel this mystery. |

Do you have a copy of the death certificate? |

This is the only one with the right initials that I can find between 1911 and 1917. Not quite the right area of London, though |

Tried that too. I was told he had an older brother Jack, probably John, but no-one could say how much older, only that he lived in London around the same area and a J A A Davies signed the marriage cert as a witness. I went through the indexes and got a cert for the only John A A Davies that I could find in London- around 1906 as it happens. Father was different and finding this family in the census I discovered that there were brothers and sisters to this John who were born in India. This is highly unlikely to be my grandfathers immediate family, but they could be cousins or maybe just friends. |

Did he have siblings? if so can you locate their birth registrations. At least that way you'll have mother's maiden name to assist you. |

Thank you. William or Gwyllym George Summerville Davies, born 1st March 1915. He always said London namely Kentish Town or Finchley. I have looked at London and Wales as his parents were Welsh but apart from buying more certs I don't know where next. He married 1934 at St Pancras aged 19.as George Gwyllym Davies, father John Davies[deceased] Chartered accountant. He died in 1991, death cert names him as William George Davies. Many thanks for any advice. |

Do you have his marriage cert? That should show his father's name and occupation. |

You will need to post his name and approx year of birth and tell us where you have been looking. Also, tell us anything else that you know, eg when did he marry? Is he on any census? |

Could anyone advise me on trying to find my grandfathers birth record. I have tried every combination of his name and looked at years each side of his supposed birth year but I can not identify the right record. I have bought certs for the likely ones but they are not him. He always maintained that he was born in London but I am not so sure now. Can anyone help? |
