Keith - not quite the full set.
FreeBMD has images thru 1959-B, 1945-M, 1935-D

As a point of interest, the images can be viewed on FreeBMD as well, quarter by quarter, even the untranscribed ones. Click on the View Images button on the home page and follow the links. Slower than Ancestry, but possible.

Sue
You have misunderstood Rob
quote
FreeBMD is now more up-to-date that 1915 (at least partially), it is worth going looking there for anything from 1916 to around 1930 before the long trawl through the quarters.(on Ancestry)

Ah, Rob - being fairly new to this, I'm interested in your comment about "the long trawl through the quarters" on FreeBMD.

Have searched for various people's deaths after 1930, but to no avail.

How would I go about searching by quarter, and how is this different from searching a wider date span?

Thanks
Sue

Tracey,
It looks like they have copied the text from under marraiges to the deaths part and tweaked it, but missed one reference to marriages.
So it should have read:
"Deaths are fully searchable by name and you will find individual matches in Deaths 1837 – 1915 and Deaths 1984 – 2005. However, for DEATHS between 1916 – 1983 you will need to use the Death Indexes."
So nothing has really changed:
1837 - 1915 Uses FreeBMD
1916 - 1983 You have to go through the indexes quarter by quarter
1984 - 2005 Is electronically indexed at source.

Note though that as FreeBMD is now more up-to-date that 1915 (at least partially), it is worth going looking there for anything from 1916 to around 1930 before the long trawl through the quarters. After all, as it says on the tin, it's free.

I'm confused and so are they it seems:
"Deaths are fully searchable by name and you will find individual matches in Deaths 1837 – 1915 and Deaths 1984 – 2005. However, for marriages between 1916 – 1983 you will need to use the Death Indexes."

Just what is going on with that site?? It has become nigh impossible to navigate these days.

Is findmypast a good alternative?
