My Father and his brother were put into a home when young , located in Petticoat Lane, London,(1918-1924). My problem is I havn't got much information to go on and where do you look, to find out about the Names of homes and circumstances, indeed are they accessable?? I'd be grateful for any guidance!

Hi Brenda,
My Father was brought up in an orphanage in Lancaster. I have found that the local Records office is very useful for finding out about local homes and orphanages. Some records offices also hold the admission records for homes in their area.

They are usually very helpful if you telephone or write to them with an enquiry even if you don't know the exact address of the home.

You could also try Googling " London orphanages 1915-1930"

Good luck with your search

London Metropolitan Archives is one place you can check.

Also being in childrens home many years ago I phoned LMA who told me over phone they had records of me. Had to then send them proof before they would release the files. Access to such files also extends to children where parents are deceased. You will get the number from the LMA website.
