You can search here for Harry Brooks Brash in Canada's database of WWI soldiers:

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-100.01-e.php

and view his original enrolment papers on line.

There is a link from his page to the Canadian Virtual War Memorial:

http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/remembers/sub.cfm?source=collections/virtualmem

When you find his entry there, it will contain the same info as the Commonwealth site, but you can also view his entry in the ornate Books of Remembrance.

Here's the direct link to the page in the Book of Remembrance:

http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/content/collections/books/bww1/ww1206.jpg

He died at Vimy, a battle that is viewed as a defining moment in Canada's development as a nation. An intro, if you're interested:

http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/remembers/sub.cfm?source=history/firstwar/vimy

You can also search the WWI Soldiers and Virtual War Memorial site for any other Brash men who may have enlisted in WWI or fallen in any of Canada's wars.

You're welcome!

I checked at http://www.whitepages.ca/
hoping that Brash might not be too common a name in Ontario these days, but unfortunately, it is. ;)

Tthere are only two Brash listings in Toronto proper. There are a lot of municipalities around Toronto where family might have spread to, if not farther afield.

Oops - I was forgetting - Margaret found Brash family in Vancouver too! 19 results for Brash in Vancouver. You could always send out a form letter. ;)

Good luck!

Wendy, when you go to the Virtual War Memorial site, there is a photo of the newspaper clipping announcing the death of Harry B. with a photograph of him.

Excellent, Margaret, I didn't think to click.

Wendy, I have the contact info for a very helpful person who deals with submissions of personal material like this to the Virtual War Memorial. (One time while looking for the record of a relation of mine, I noticed a mistranscription of another name, and submitted a correction, and this chap was terribly apologetic, even though it wasn't my family at all, and made a point of inviting me to submit photos of my family member.)

I'll dig it up and send it to you by PM.

That clipping was very probably submitted by a family member in Canada. He might be able to pass on your contact info to whoever submitted it.

Yes, Evie, I never neglect to click on that option on the Vitual War Memorial site. Sometimes there'a wealth of information there, depending on who submitted.

Hi, I have just been following everything up, I have found the clipping with the picture, also the enlistment records for Harry and his brother, I was wondering whether the pictures were submitted or collected by the war memorial and you have answered that already, It has been a fascinating day, within 4 hours I have been given so much information which has opened up a whole new side, its great that people like yourselves, Richard, Evie and Margaret are out there helping people along, all this would have taken me months at least to find, this has got to be the most useful way to help people, and what goes around comes around , maybe I will be able to help someone in a similar way , thank you all so much
cheers

Me too. ;) I may be guessing wrong about the info at the Virtual War Memorial, since the staff do extensive research for the site, but they'll let you know.

MargaretM

I always assumed that it was family members who submitted the photos, Evie, but then I could be wrong too. It's been known to happen! However they do ask for submissions of photos.
