Registration began in 1837 but it was not compulsory to register a birth.Civil registration came into force in Scotland on January 1, 1855.I believe it was the act of 1874 that made it compulsory to register births in the UK so by 1875 all births had to be registered. |

I hope someone will be kind enough to advise, which year it became a legal requirement to register Births. |
