Someone posted information about Alanson Baldwin on FamilySearch. Sending their name and address by pm.

Getting back to the post with Ticonderoga, New York...the reason I thought it might be Ticonderoga, instead of the town in New Zealand, is because my favourite type of pencil to use is Ticonderoga.

I am researching Alanson, to see if he moved his family to Canada. He is on the 1850 census...occupation: pencil maker. ;)

Had a look at the original of that 1881 census. William was a free thinker but the rest of the family were R.C.
They were:
William, 34
Mary, 28
Robert A., 9
Benjamin H., 6
William C., 4
Clayton I or J?, 2
Mary L., less than a year, born Mar.

I know some people wonder why I go backward, instead of going forward when trying to help someone.

In this case, I cannot find anything for living people.

However...
According to the 1901 Canadian census, your Clayton's father was William, born c1847, in the U.S., he immigrated in 1855. He possibly was born in Ticonderoga, New York. Childrens names included: Lorene?, Robert, Benjamin, William, Clayton James, Mary (Louise?), Katherine P, Pyra A, Laura Florence.

On Rootsweb, I found Baldwin children born in Ticonderoga to Alanson H Baldwin:
Cathaeine, born about 1840
Hanna Adaline, about 1849
Kate, about 1845
Pyra E, about 1851
William Henry, born about 1847

Also in Ticonderoga, but born to William Guy Baldwin (possibly Alanson's brother):
Charles Harman, born 1850
Cora Eunice, born 1860
Mary Louisa, born 1855
William Guy, born 1864

Born to Lorenzo Baldwin:
Lorin C., born 1849

With names so similar to your family, and with the possibility of William being born in Ticonderoga, they could be related.
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi
The researcher has quite a few names she's researched, so she may not know too much about the Baldwin's.

The 1901 census says that William was born in US, and emigrated 1855, rest of the family born in Ontario.

Oh, I'm feeling bad! After offering my services, I've found absolutely nothing, zilch, nada! This is in my "neck of the woods" too. I live just south of Ottawa, been to Rouses Point ( the border crossing) many times.
The only thing I can say is that it looks like the daughter Pyra that Lisa found was Perra A. on the 1901 census. (Yes I think that was 1901.) and possibly the sister she's going to join, Lorena was Mary L. on the census.
I'm just going to have a look at the original of that census, see if I can learn anything more.

Could not find Clayton/James in 1911! Are you sure it was "Balderon"? (I've been looking for family members, with no luck, so far.)

Found this. Doesn't help for your rellie search, but in case you don't have it:

In addition to the phone directory, it depends on where they lived. I've found more recent information about people in British Columbia than any other province. I've found very little information about people in Nova Scotia and Quebec.

If you would like to share information, we can see if we can help. (Keeping my fingers crossed that they had an unusual surname.)

Any suggestions gratefully received.
