I have an Aunt Dolly whose real name is Agnes. Gosh, what a curve ball? I was looking for Dolly and Dorothy and when I worked out her real name and asked her she swore me to secrecy - lol |

Bear in mind Nancy is a name in its own right, and registration was not compusory untill the 1870's |

Does anyone know what Nancy might be short for? I've found a Nancy on 1851 and 1861 censuses but no matching birth record looking several years either side and no possible marriage or death records. Assume this is because officially she was called something else, but the shortened name Nancy was used on census return. Many thanks in advance, Helen |
