Lodger/Boarder why would they change this on censu

Normally a lodger just rents a room while a boarder gets bed & board. |

I think a lodger just slept in the house, but a boarder took their meals with the family. (Seem to remember I read it somewhere.) |

On several Scottish census I have there are people listed as Lodger then this is crossed out and Boarder entered, really what would be the differnce between the two? I mean why change it on census form? |
