According to the WDYTYA Magazine Editor on the magazine's website forum, it will start on MONDAY 2nd February with Rory Bremner.
The message (dated today) said they had only just got final confirmation of it's new date.

I just looked at the website and on BBC HD Jan 23 2009 is one of the episodes from series 8 but that's all there seems to be. I can't find anything on when the new series will start.

Boo hoo I was excited there for a moment, would mean there was actually something to watch. I really wish the history channel stayed on past 6pm.

Well that's a relief then. Just clicked on this thread and thought noooo I'm missing it!

And it does not have Alan Rickman (in this series anyway!)

Phew.

I don't like the way they draw the trees on there because they never show the women's maiden names and that really irritates me.

So from what LD said if you take 3 researchers each working 35 hour weeks that adds up to 840 hours of experienced researchers time. Don't know how you'd do the maths to figure out how long it would take a member of the public without specialist knowledge to put their tree together. Unless like my OH you have a rare surname which makes one branch ridiculously easy to do.

The show interests and annoys me as they only ever follow one or two of the persons ancestoral lines, I can't remeber which show it was I was thinking and what about X relation as they mentioned them in passing and moved swiftly on.

So next question how do I get to be one of these researchers?

Edit: actually being the bbc I guess under the freedom of information act you could find out how much they spent on 'research' over the series.

Alan Rickman is gorgeous. Just listening to his voice sends goosepimples all over my skin.
Having said that, WDYTYA is not listed for tonight. Has anyone any idea what's happening?

GypsyJoe Report 21 Jan 2009 20:03

I was wondering as well what channel it's supposed to be showing on because I can't find it.

As for those who say they don't know who Alan Rickman is....well....

he was in Love Actually (father of the two kids and works with the dark haired woman who was coming onto him) the same place as the women who has the brother in hospital.

He is alsoProfessor Snape in the Harry Potter films.

In my local paper some months ago, there was a letter , requesting any Family Historian who had found an interesting"Brick Wall" where DNA seemed to be the only way to solve the puzzle, to contact them.
It came from a TV company and they planned to make a series of programmes highlighting these stories.

DNA being the tool of the future.

I would love to have contacted them but my OH wouldn't have approved.
His sister and I are convinced we have a story.
How do you contact the Nobility and ask them for a few cells from their cheek?
Any suggestions welcomed?

Hi Diane,
Thanks for info. Do you have the dates until the 4th March.?
I return to the UK then so will have to get my daughter to record them for me as I am addicted.
Two of the previous ones had special interest to me.
Lesley Jarretts parents had a shop in the same village as my Aunt and Uncle, at the same time , so they would have known each other.
The Actress, in "Waking the Dead"( can't remember her name ) featured The Lanes in Carlisle" in her episode. My ancesters were there too, at the same time, a pretty terrible place by all accounts.

I don't think you're really supposed to learn anything from WDYTYA, just enjoy it.

It's obvious that plenty of research goes into it beforehand then the producers choose the parts of the family that are a little more interesting & go back further.

I mean, who an earth waits for anything, let alone a tv camera, before they open a cert from GRO?!!!!

Ozi.
