hi have found one of my ancestors in prison- portsea hampshire- in 1871. how do i find out what crime he commited, he lived in leeds so i dont know how he ended up there |

I had one of those. My chap was in Holloway prison - before it became Women Only. |

I used to live in Portsmouth so I know the prison you are talking about. It is now called Kingston Prison. If you Google Kingston Prison, Portsmouth, and/or Portsmouth Records Office, you might get email addresses and then you can send an enquiry. If I still lived there, I would visit the Records Office and find out for you - unfortunately for you, I now live in Australia. |
