Tiddly is correct - in 1855 (the first year of civil registration) there was only 1 14 y old marrying (a male) and only 41 15 y olds (1 male) out of nearly 20000 marrs (age not stated for 98 males and 172 females). |

Before 1929, Scots law followed Roman law in allowing a girl to marry at twelve years of age and a boy at fourteen, without any requirement for parental consent, this however, was uncommon. |

Does anybody know how old a couple had to be in 1838 in scotland before they could get married. |
