I use Memory-Map OS Edition which is a quite detailed map and I can't find a Whithaven in Yorkshire. The nearest I can find is a Whithill which is just north east of Appletreewick.

Perhaps it was just a mistake by the enumerator who could have meant Whitehaven. You also have to remember that there have been boundary changes so some places are not in the counties that they used to be.

I tried looking on http://www.streetmap.co.uk but I couldn't find it in Yorkshire - Maybe it was a mistake

Can anyone advise on how I can find out where Whithaven in Yorkshire is? My g/g/grandmother gives this as her place of birth on one census. (She also gives Bacup Lancashire and Bury Lancashire so can't make her mind up). I have tried Google and my trusty road atlas and can find Whitehaven in Cumbria but not Whithaven in Yorkshire. Any tips would be very much appreciated.
