Have just found what looks like the John Gregory above in the 1861 census so that makes it unlikely. |

Could be him - it depends who filled in the census form. Apparently sometimes if the children of the house could write (I know that my great-great grandma could because in 1869 aged 26 she wrote her name in a prayer book, yet her mother - who married in 1841 - could only put a cross on her marriage certificate) they would be given the job of filling in the form. |
