CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 13 Sep 2008 12:43

Marriage would have to be around 1832...
As this couple have an 8 yr son in 1841.

1841 does not show relationships ...

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 13 Sep 2008 12:25

If she was 40 in the 1841 census she could be any age between 40 and 44. So birth year would be between 1797 and 1801. The death record points to 1797. At marriage in 1814 she would therefore be 17 which is not unreasonable.

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 13 Sep 2008 12:06

Esther Hubbard = 40 in 1841 census
Dies 1847 aged 50.
Marries 1814.

Doesn't add up!

If she was 40 in 1841 she would be born 1801
If she died at 50 in 1847 she would be born in 1797
If married in 1814 she would be 13 when married if born 1801.
If married in 1814 she would be 17 when married if born 1797.

Doesn't seem right somehow.

Jims marriage looks good

JOSEPH HUBBARD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Marriage: 26 MAY 1817 Saint Giles Cripplegate.

If she was born in 1797..at the time of the marriage she would be 20...that makes better sence.

If thats the right marriage.

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 13 Sep 2008 11:27

I would go with her age from the death certificate. 1841 rounded down the ages. So, she would have been born about 1797. But, if you do search the parish records start a few years before - just in case!

Did Esther have any daughters?
Although not proof, the name of her eldest daughter might give a clue to her own mother's name.

This idea has helped give me a lead before now.

another thought!! sometimes the witnesses on the marriage record may help if a member of the family. ie if you can find their baptism too and the parents match up

It was usual to marry in the Brides Parish so the first assumption would be Mile End Old Town. You would need to search for her baptism in the parish records for that area as a start.

You could get Parish records to search from your local LDS church.they will get them in for you at a small cost. think its £3

Hi having lost enthusiasm of late, I would like again to start looking for my 3 x gt grandmother, however each time I start, Im not sure where to begin.

Esther Hubbard (nee Wallis) appeared on the 1841 census return with her husband Joseph Hubbard and 4 children. At the time of the census they were living at George Street, Shoreditch and as you are aware the 1841 does not give birthplaces - this census shows her age as 40?- before the next census Esther died of consumption at the age of 50 in 1847. I also have a copy a marriage record showing the marriage between Joseph and Esther in 1814 in the parish of M.E.N.T (Mile End New Town), but again due to the era does not show any details of fathers!! - can I/do I presume that Esther was born in this parish? due to the fact that Joseph remarried I was able to find his father as it was stated on a later marriage certificate, but I would love to find parents of Esther. If anyone has any ideas or tips I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you.
