Hi there,
You very kindly looked up for me concerning a Thomas Grout [born abt 1809 in Woolwich] a little while ago without success.
I am wondering whether at that time it was possible that he was in a workhouse[born there or placed in there at an early age] and that explains the lack of birth records for my ancestor.
Do you know if there were any workhouses in that area and whether any records exist with an entry for this ancestor of mine.
await your comments.
Regards.
Michael.

Hi Tracie,
Have only now noticed your reference to St Mary Magdelane Woolwich and wonder whether you can help me.
My ancestor Thomas Grout is recorded as per 1851 census to being born in Woolwich about 1809.
I have searched but to no avail in tracing his birthplace[inc LMA]in London so i have no idea who his parents were.
Would love to know as i am stuck at the moment.
Await your comments.
Regards.
Michael.

Hi Tracie -

Would like to take up your kind offer re. checking out the birthdates/baptismal dates of two of my direct descendants :- William Robson, born approx. 1779 and his son William jnr born 1806. Also a second son John born about 1810. The offspring of both Williams all appear to have been baptised at St Mary Magdalen, Woolwich although William snr married at St Mary's Lewisham and William jnr at St Michael's East Wickham.

I have estimated the above birth years from their dates of apprenticeships.

Thanks for your help,

Kind regards

Stuart.

Hi Helen

Not sure if your reading this but I cannot see your posting request for a Dallas lookup, I have found a Dallas surname and wondered if it might be yours Baptism is for James Dallas son of John and Margaret Dallas in 1832.

If this is yours and you would like a copy, let me know and send me your email address and I will send it to you.

seems I missed it the other day, I must of been very tired. lol.

Best wishes
Tracie.

Hi Tracie,
Thank you for your kind offer.
Can you please take a look for the baptism records for Samuel Hurt about 1825 Marylebone, and Sarah Jane Parker about 1828 Wandsworth. I'm afraid I don't have exact details of the area.
Thanks again,
Susan

Hi Tracie,

I have an ancestor, William Henry Herring ,Baptised St Marys, Woolwich 10/2/1805, son of Henry and Mary Herring. I believe he may have had a brother, Frederick H born 1802C. Would you mind checking to see if you can find a baptism for him and also a marriage around 1800C for Henry Herring and Mary ?
I would really appreciate it and many thanks,

Sue

Linda Report 4 May 2009 22:35

I am looking for the marriage of Joseph Shepherd or Sheppard and Mary around Woolwich. Their son George was born in 1823 so probably some time before that and any Shepherds baptised around that time. Thank you
