I have a relative whose birth cert does not give the fathers name or occupation yet on his marriage cert the father appears, although deceased. Anyone come across this and what were the reasons for this? |

I have a birth certificate that doesn't show the father. It was re registered 2 years later with the father's name on it. |

Apparently this happened quite often when illegitimate children invented a father when marrying - probably to make themselves look more respectable to their inlaws! If you can find a baptism record, it might have the father's name. |

The surname of the mother is the same as the son so I presume he took her name. |
