It means British Subject. Is he on any other census? Which census is that from, I'll take a look for you. You never know, he may have been working for my great great Grandfather who owned an Iron works in Le Havre! (Also a british Subject) |

I think this is the 1881 refered to In 1891 his brother Edward was living with the family also b France 1837 |
