Hi Paul - it seems that they went to Melbourne. So - as they went to Melbourne -you'll now need to contact the 'Victoria State Library' - (query form on-line). ......I couldn't see any record of Bessie's or Leslie's death in the Melbourne cemeteries - so hopefully you will find them ok. .....Valerie

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 27 Jul 2008 12:24

The story was that my gran was going out shopping. Taking my father with her. But my aunt was not well..so stayed at home...During the shopping trip, there was an air raid. In returning to the house, my gran found the house took a direct hit from a bomb..possibly a V1..
But have never been able to find or prove the truth.

I also have Bessie as born in March?..not Feb as it appears. Unless she wasnt registered till March..would seem odd

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 27 Jul 2008 12:16

Yes...I had looked for a death during the war years to co-inside with the story of an aunt killed in an air raid in ww2. But didn't find any reference to a Bessie Wilson dying in ww2.

I was looking for Bessie..but it appears to have been Leslie. I think Leslie's middle name begain with a W.
At least thats what I have...she was born in 1937.
if my info is correct.

WOW..thanks Jeanette.

I didnt know when they left for Oz..just a guess that it was around the time, or just before, I was born..1968.

So this looks like it means that Bessie went to Oz and Leslie was killed in the air raid in ww2.

I was thinking it was the other way round..

Great find!....without folks like you ...I'd have never known....

Thanks Very Muchness!...... :)..Very Much Appricated

In the story of the aunt who imigrated ..I believe the city of Canberra was mentioned.
This was told me...a very long time ago...And no-one in the family ever really spoke of her.
I wasnt even sure it was true.

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 27 Jul 2008 09:25

WOW...many many thanks Valerie for taking the time to do a search...very much appreciated.

I am really unsure which one was meant to of imigrated to Oz..and which one was killed in an air raid in ww2.
I only resently found out thier possible names! Bessie and Leslie. I didnt even know thier names..or even they they truely existed!!

These were just stories told me when I young...didnt know if they were true.

The info you have provided looks interesting..especially Bessie Emma Wilson..I beleive she was born sometime in March 1927..or at least...registered then.

I beleive her name was Bessie E Wilson...so the Bessie you found looks very promising!..This is GREAT!...
Cant thank you enough. :) Your a star! :)

Hi Valerie.
I have posted away for my fathers birth cert. This will comfirm my grandparents names I hope. But I have not yet recieved it..but I'm pretty sure this his their names

Leslie Whitford Wilson
Dasiy Lilian Johnston

My father had a number of siblings.. Bessie And Leslie being 2 of them. ( So I am lead to believe).
I have 2 stories of aunts that i have been unable to confirm. One imigrating to Oz and the other being killed in air raid in ww2. But I dont know which aunt goes with which story.

I have looked for the death of Bessie during the war years ..but was unable to find any reference. I believe Bessie was the one killed in the air raid. But i could be wrong.

Anyone with any ideas of where to look etc would be much appreciated.

Paul - do you know the parents' names? (I don't think GR deletes messages - more likely it was someone trying to help - then realised they're duplicating same info.) .....Valerie

Thanks folks for the replies.
Sorry have not replied sooner..looking else where.

Bessie E Wilson
Leslie W Wilson

Are the names Im looking at.
One imigrated to Oz..the other was believed killed in air raid in ww2...BUT..don't know which is which.

I would assmue the one who imigrated to Oz got married and then imigrated ...this possibly being Leslie...The other Bessie..assumed die in air-raid.

Bessie born 1927 and Leslie 1937.

Have looked for Bessie's death during the war years..but did not find any entires.

With Leslie maybe being married before imigrated..then she would have a new surname which is unkown.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers!

:)
