David,

I gather that you are not near the Suffolk Records Office but if you could get to London and the Society of Genealogists you could search there as Suffolk is particularly well served: they seem to have copy of the bishops' transcripts for every parish in the county. The cost of a day/half-day at the SoG is going to be less than the likely charge at the CRO.

I assumed that you would have found her on the censuses after she was married, especially as it came up immediately.
I thought that you wanted to know where she was before she married.

Have you noticed on that 1851 census, that s someone has made a correction to the name of the visitor. If you click on the correction, you can email the person who sent in the correction, it may be worth doing that as someone else has been looking at this family

You must have her on a census after she was married, where and when does it say she was born??Where was she living when she got married?

Oh well another theory bites the dust, that 1841 image is clearly Garrod and her father was an ag lab called Henry

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Jul 2008 22:33

Eh?
No I was discounting the second one in Mickfield because he was a farmer, but suggesting that

13 Jun 1838 David GOWING 61 Suffolk Winston, St Andrew
could be him

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Jul 2008 22:31

There are three Charlottes in Winston in 1841
Charlotte Garrod abt 1821 Suffolk, England Winston, Suffolk

Charlotte Pettit abt 1816 Suffolk, England Winston, Suffolk

Charlotte Plowman abt 1835 Suffolk, England Winston, Suffolk

no you are correct david gowing {occ farmer ] is not her father unless her father misled the regisrar saying he was silversmith
instead of fafmer
so no thats not him
and the second one has no charlotte with them

There doesn't seem to be any relevant baptisms or marriages in that batch, but a closer look at those parish records may be worth while

David

David Report 20 Jul 2008 22:23

On the NBI discs there are only two david Gowings in Suffolk

burial dates
13 Jun 1838 David GOWING 61 Suffolk Winston, St Andrew
9 Aug 1869 David GOWING 78 Suffolk Mickfield, St Mary & St Lambert

the second chap is this one who appears on the censuses from 1841 to 1861 in Mickfiled, but he is a farmer, so presumably can be counted out

so I wonder if the other one could be the elusive father you need. annoyingly he died just before the census.
