I have just found I can order online direct from Scunthorpe. which is covering the area I want, Thorne.
So I am going to try ordering direct from them,
the cost is just the same £7. and it may be quicker.
they were very helpful on phone when I had a query about a certificate I had received from GRO who were not too helpful the person I spoke to at the GRO sounded so stressed, I felt so sorry for her but I still want my certificate.
It may be worth checking if the local register office has an on-line ordering service.

I ordered a cert which gave dispatch date of the 9 th June ,gave a checking point and hadnt heard anything so have been eagerly awaiting the post each morning.Just rec an email saying they are refunding £4 so they must have only just got around to doing the order so much for dispatch the 9th.
I'm really disappointed as thought a brick wall was crumbling at last.Oh well back to the drawing board

Richard - i reckon you'll be waiting at least a month for them to get round to yours.
It really is a poor show at the moment. And taking over two weeks to reply to an email is just terrible customer service.

The back log of wrongly sent out certificates is not inspiring. They received mine back on the 27th May. I wonder how long it will take them to get it back to me. I don't think I will be using GRO again unless there is no alternative

I phoned the gro today about my missing certificates.
One was a cert i ordered in April. They had sent thr wrong one, so i sent it back and heard nothing since.
The lady on the phone was really lovely but said that department were very behind and were dealing with wrong certs sent back to them up to 14th May.

Mine was received by them on the 19th of may so it will be another couple of weeks till they get to it.

Makes you wonder how many wrong certs go out?
When i said that i'd emailed about it over two weeks ago she said they were very behind in that dept too!!

I ordered a marriage cerificate which arrived late. Unfortunately, it was the wrong one, so I sent it back as per imstructions and waited. I chased it last Thursday, they are taking two weeks for wrong certificates because of the numbers involved. I was not impressed. Surely, it would have been better to get it right in the first place!!

I ordered one back in April which never arrived, I gave up on getting a respnse and just ordered it again last month. It arrived within a week that time but it was completely the wrong certificate!! I finally got through to someone and received the correct one today, another week on, but no refund for the fact I paid twice. Bah.

Still, they are cheap.

strange they appear to be trying to save postage money by folding certs into halfsized envelopes............yet sent several certs out in seperate postings.....

I ordered 2 on 27th May. Both had a despatch date of 2nd June.
One arrived on 4th, and the other on 5th - both posted 2nd class.

Hello Ann just an add on to all the answers you've had, there has been a problem at the source asthey have a huge backlog, so I've been told by them after waiting nearly a month for a cert, but I'm glad to say it arrived today. It's something to do with the fact that since the begining of April they have amalgamated with the passport office !!!!!
