I'm having trouble on Ancestry. The reader keeps crashing

Can't seem to find Clara.What year would that be?

Edward and Elizabeth's first child was called Clara too according to IGI.

Wow, Thanks I'm certain you're right. I have seen the other Clementina and Phenix before and was sure they must be his siblings

I Thought that edwin was edward too. I have seen other mistakes similar on my searches joseph instead of Joshua.

I didn't realise that they would assume a stepfathers name in those times I thought that this was a relatively modern way.

Thanks again for helping me, I would never have found this myself

I don't see a marriage for Betty to Thomas and I can't make out their marital status in 1851.

The Bamfords/Woods are same family.

Edward was born Woods. His mother Betty Woods then had more children with Thomas Bamford.

A birth certificate should show a mother's previous married names as 'late' and her maiden name as 'formerly'.

However the maiden surname in registration is not the surname at birth but is the surname used at the mother's first marriage....So could be a surname she used after taking a step father's name.

The information given for a birth is given by an informant, so only as good as they knew....Or if it was the mother, what she wanted them to know!

As far as my Mum knows, there were no Woods in the family.
If I applied for her younger brothers birth cert would it show any previous marriage for the Mother Elizabeth as well as her maiden name?
I cant find her Husband Joseph Whitehead on the 1891 cencus either although his parents are on it.
I suppose the Bamfords could have moved away But Clementina married in 1891 at st chads Rochdale
