Sorry if this is the wrong board.
I Have been trying to find my Great Grandmothers birth details so I can obtain her birth certificate to no avail. I have searched Ancestry, free bmd, Lancashire bmd and igi.
According to the 1881 cencus she was born in Rochdale and my Mother confirms this. Does this mean she may not have been registered or that her details have been missed off? She was born in 1872
Are there anymore free sites I could search.
Thanks for your time.

Your best bet is to look on the FULL birth index on Ancestry.co.uk.

If your not a paid member of that site...theres loads of GR members that are and willing to look for you.....but we need her name.

Maybe her name was mistranscibed but i bet you 50p that a GR member will find her for you....

Last of the big spenders...Gerri x

Thanks all
Paid up member on ancestry I can't find her.
Clementina Bamford born Rochdale 1872 although late 1871 is a possibility
I realise it wasn't compulsory, still hopeful.
Thanks for your offers of help.

Thanks Lindsey
I also wondered that.
I have also searched using Clementina without the surname but the ones that came up in the 1881 cencus weren't her.
Maybe i should have mentioned that she is on that cencus named Bamford.
The main reason I wanted the birth cert is to confirm her mothers maiden name
I had also come up with the name Cryer.
I'm just so new to this that I have no confidence in some of the info I discover.
Thanks again.
Diane.

Have you seen this one, surname is wrong but Area and year is correct? but then if they never married till 1874, its a possibility?

The only Clementina unaccounted for is this one:

Births Dec 1872
Wood Clementina Rochdale 8e 27

Odd thing about this is IGI lists her parents as Edward and Elizabeth:

Clementina Wood
Christening: 22 DEC 1872 St Chad'S, Rochdale, Lancashire, England

Parents:
Father: Edward Wood
Mother: Elizabeth

Source Information:
Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type:

C004921

If you use the same batch number these two had an Ada Wood too.

Are the Bamfords/Woods the same family?

As far as my Mum knows, there were no Woods in the family.
If I applied for her younger brothers birth cert would it show any previous marriage for the Mother Elizabeth as well as her maiden name?
I cant find her Husband Joseph Whitehead on the 1891 cencus either although his parents are on it.
I suppose the Bamfords could have moved away But Clementina married in 1891 at st chads Rochdale
Thanks for you're help P. Rose

A birth certificate should show a mother's previous married names as 'late' and her maiden name as 'formerly'.

However the maiden surname in registration is not the surname at birth but is the surname used at the mother's first marriage....So could be a surname she used after taking a step father's name.

The information given for a birth is given by an informant, so only as good as they knew....Or if it was the mother, what she wanted them to know!
