Wikipedia,shoelaces didnt become widely popular until the 20th century. |

Nottingham Lace was the best available, still collected some made at home in cottage industry I'm sure there a lot to be googled |

I have to quibble Lindseys statement that Nottingham lace was the best available, In the 19C Honiton lace was also highly rated and Oueen Victoria's wedding dress contained Honiton lace. Hubbies female ancestors were all lacemakers in East Devon and I had a piece of 19C lace for my something old when we married. |
