If you go to TopTips on the left of this page, then Advanced Search and enter "German ancestors" you will find plenty of threads with useful advice about searching for German forebears.

I have just found out that one of my relatives was born in Germany in1874 but ended up living in Ramsgate, Kent working as a fisherman and married. Has anyone got any ideas how I go about finding out more about his birth and family in Germany. I have no idea where to start looking!!
