I was told that my Great-Grandfather, William (Charles) Dewberry, committed suicide. He was a Railway Greaser and I have found him on the 1891 census in Peterborough but not on the 1901. However I can't find a record of his death. Any ideas where I should look? |

Maybe he didn't die in the area you expect? Have you looked in other areas? |

Can you rule this man out? Cambridge isn't too far from Peterborough, I think. |

I've tried (at least I think I have) looking in all areas. I have ordered his Birth Certificate to try to confirm his age or any other info. The story goes that after his death my Nan went into service. She never saw any of her family again and only spoke of them to my Mum once. Sadly, my Mum died in November so I can't ask any questions. I would love to get a copy of his death certificate to establish he cause of death and maybe find out why!!!! |

Thank you Kate, but some time ago I ordered his death certificate and he was a musician and also had a degreee. I know he wasn't the right person. |

If this is your man in 1891 then he shows in 1901 |

There will have been an inquest if he committed suicide and the inquest may not have taken place immediately, so there needs to be some leeway when looking at dates |

Mr gr grandfather committed suicide in 1897. The inquest was held within three days. I think they were a bit quicker then. I found nothing in the local paper for him but eventually tracked down a report in Lloyd's Weekly Newspaper. They loved a bit of scandal back then so I'm sure there will be something reported on your man. |

Thank you to everyone who helped me with this. With your help I have confirmed that he did commit suicide.Although it is very sad and the family were split up after that, it means that my Nan's family are finally reunited, even if only on my family tree!! |
