Hello All,

I have the marriage cert for John Ellwood widower & Margaret Richardson widow née Parker 16/12/1840 Kirkby Stephen Westmorland. I have not been able to find John Ellwood's previous marriage & as far as I'm aware there were no children from his first marriage.

John Ellwood was b1807 & baptised St Michael's Appleby son of William Ellwood & Anne Simpson. I have looked at previous John Ellwood marriages (IGI, freebmd) but find the couple living in the census.

Any ideas?

Gillian

As he was born in Appleby could this be his previous marraige?

Hi K,

Thanks for your reply. I have found John & Ann Ellwood alive in the 1841 census so cannot be my John.

Hi Jim,

Yes a possibility. I couldn't find a corresponding marriage which is why I haven't ordered the cert. Maybe I should just take a chance!!

Thanks,

Gillian

Hi Gillian

I thought John Ellwood and Margaret married in 1840 pre the 1841 census - Is this incorrect?

Yes that's them in 1841. Smaredale is part of Kirkby Stephen.
