Local library may well have archives of local newspapers at least on microfiche and it would have been likely that the story would have been covered, another place to have a look around is:

I'm trying to trace the death of a Royal Engineers serviceman: Sapper John Christopher Richard Young, service number 1863204. My aunt believes he was killed in the mid to late 1920s in a road accident whilst still serving but I can trace no record for him and we cannot get his army record because we do not know if his NOK, an only child, is still alive. On his marriage certificate, in June 1924 John was aged 21 years.

Any help would be fantastic.
