Margaret,

Can you list the details from the marriage cert?

What was his age when he married, father's occupation, witnesses, addresses, etc..

Hi Margaret,

I still keep an eye out for your William.

What is the name that is crossed out on the other marriage cert you have from the local office?

Also I wonder, do you have the deaths of the parents or marriages of any of his siblings in case he turns up on one of these?

Kind regards
Amanda x

Did Emma move between the birth of her last child with William and her remarriage?
I'm thinking that if you could check burial records for the nearby parish church, you might find William's burial recorded.

Alternatively is there a nearby cemetery which has records which could be checked for the relevant years?

Hi Gwyn good morning to you the problem is I beleive he was born in 1831 which would make him a lot older I know . When his wife remarried one of the witness's was a James Poole whom I beleive was his brother so I harrdly think she would have had him as a witness if William had not died......................

Even on Williams marriage cert. there was a mix up I got the one from the GRO and also got the original from the local office they crossed out one name put in Williams so if they made a mistake on the name they could have on the age age and that did not get altered.

I really did not think someone could die and the death was not registered but perhaps this one slipped through the net!!

This i beleive is the family from the 1841 census

George Pool
Age: 25
Estimated Birth Year: 1816
Gender: Male
Where born: Suffolk, England

Civil Parish: Haverhill
Hundred: Risbridge
County/Island: Suffolk
Country: England

Street address:

Occupation: View Image

Registration district: Risbridge
Sub registration district: Haverhill
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
George Pool 25
Maria Pool 25
William Pool 9
George Pool 8
Hannah Pool 6
James Pool 2

which I think would make William a lot older than it says in the 1881 census.

Thank you for reading my thread

My mistake then......
I searched on Williams born in Haverhill in 1851.

There seem to be alot of POOLEs from that area..........

Hi Gwyn, Yes I have thought the same thing. Williams father was named George ant the first son William had born in 1882 was name George William Poole so take it that is named after his grandfather and father. Also William had a brother named George.

I have not found William on the 1871 census nor 1861 census but have found his wife Emma and her family.

I don't about the age gap in between children.......... if his 2 sisters are anything to go by they only produced one between the 2 of them....................................................

What record was you looking at for the 1851 census please. Also I have looked for a death earlier

regards Margaret

It would be useful to see if you could find a baptism record for the 2 boys.

I find the large age gaps interesting and also the names.
Although not a requirement it is worth noting that it would seem that neither child was named after his paternal grandfather ( going by 1851 info. )

WAS William the father I wonder,....or was he already dead?

If the last child was b in early 1889 he could have died in late 1888.

Is the wife described as a widow on 1891 census?

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 2 May 2008 09:25

It won't say.....Husband of.... on a man's death certificate.
His wife might not be the informant either.
I have certificates where a sister-in-law or even a neighbour informed.

Hi Woodpecker,

Quote his wifes name as a check point,if his age isnt right on it to what you belive... it wont matter so much as getting the right wife,

,,,if you give a 3 year span, between ie 1800,..1803.....,GRO will refund part of cost if they dont find it in that time,,,this way is better done via phone than online....

Have you got the last 2 children marriage certificates,to see if he was down a deceased,?
