Hi Vicky

Looks like Ernest was b 1868 Lambeth, so the Clara 1871 is probably the right one. I think you will have to get the 1886 marriage cert which will give you the father's name as well as the husband.

Hi Peter

...... I've also been searching for deaths, and for Clara on the 1891 and 1901 censuses, but nothing seems to fit.

Clara Cressy is shown as Married on the 1871 Census .... which could be an error!!

so according to the 1891 Census Annie Giles married Charles W Lappage

This means that Clara married the unknown person.

I haven't found her on the 1891 Census,

Clara Cressy abt 1849 Kingston, Surrey, England Lodger Lambeth, London

faerykingdom Report 1 May 2008 21:38

Clara Beatrice Milton was born in 1849 in Witley Surry to parents Henry and Emma milton.

The last time she appears on the census' is in 1861. In 1867 she marries a Thomas Cressey in Newington Surrey.

In 1871 a Ernest Cressey (aged 3) is living with Henry and Emma Milton listed as grandson and his father his wrongly listed as their son John Milton. Ernest is still living with them in 1881.

Their is no sign of a Clara Cressey on any census after this or her now husband Thomas Cressey.

I have Clara's mother Emma Milton's Will from 1898 and it lists all her surviving children and Clara is not listed so I'm sure she died. I can not find a death or a remarriage for her.

Any help would be great, thanks for any help in advance,

Vicky X
