Hi Lynette,

I can now see what you mean. Which one do you have the one registered in 1a or the 1b

DUANCE Harold James 29-MAY-1950 WARKS_NTH 768/1B B2D 291 Feb 2006

DUANCE Harold James 29-MAY-1950 WARKS_NTH 768/1A A2D 164 Nov 2005

Could it just be that it was registered in the wrong district?

Best Wishes

Jane

I've just checked for entries on findmypast and his death is registered in Nov 2005 and again in Feb 2006. ...same DOB...29th not 28th, ..same district.

Perhaps there was an error on the first one.

There's a Scottish example of a corrected entry with two death dates at:
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/content/help/index.aspx?r=554&404
The guy died when riding a train over the Tay Bridge near Dundee just as the bridge collapsed. Initially the death was registered a couple of months later, and the d.o.d. was the day they found his washed up body. After an inquest, the d.o.d. was changed to the day the bridge collapsed.

You can only register a death once as you have to produce a certificate certifying death from the hospital, hospice or wherever the deceased died. This has to be given to the Registrar issuing the death certificate.

In the event of an inquest, an certificate is issued to allow burial or cremation, but the death is not registered until after the inquest.

Ice Maiden,

Would you mind putting up the name just so we can have a look at what you mean.

Best Wishes

Peter I used to be able to view the records and from that I found that it was the same person by birth date name and place of death.

Granadad I have spoken to my dads girl friend and she told me when he died and she is the only 1 to have registered the death so I dont know. The dates are different aswell. 1 for April and 1 for Nov.

Island I do have his " first" death cert here which say 07.04.2005 but as for the second 1 I dont know. Was just really confused that was all.

It's possible that a second person also registered the death, not realising they were duplicating things.

How can you tell just from Ancestry that they are for the same person?

I have the date that my father died but wondered why on Ancsetry records there are 2 dates for him. I have checked the details on both records and they are for the same person. Does anyone have any ideas? Lynette xx
