Where a bride has been married previously she marrys (usually!!) in her married name.

Does anyone know when the index started to record the maiden name too?

I have searched all my reference books and I cant find the date...Even Mark Herber has let me down :-(

Many thanks

Chris

The GRO index only gives one surname for the spouse.........sometimes, however, there are double index entries, showing each surname.

Late 1911 was when the spouse's name was added to the index
