Can anyone tell me why when I search for a relative that I know was born in 1900 married in 1921 why I can find no record of her death?
Admittedly I don't know when she died but I know it was after 1936. And before 1955. Likewise I can find no record of my grandparents marriage even though I know when and where they were married. Why is there no record?
I find it frustrating that I cannot find records of my more recent relatives deaths.
It seems that records for the mid part of the last century are missing. Am I right?
Any tips as to what I could do to find a record of her death.

Married William Palmer 1921 Medway.
Gave birth William Palmer 1921 Medway
Died?

If you are using FreeBMD then you won't find them, it only has coverage upto 1920's.

Even on Ancestry you won't find them by doing a normal search, you have to manually search the full records looking at each year, quarter by quarter and look through all the images as they have not been indexed.

I presume you are using FreeBMD or those transcribed on Ancestry?

Unfortunately, it is a case of having to search the indexes manually for later years, quarter by quarter - so not a quick or easy task if you have no idea when the event was.

If you know a particular date (or year even) for something, then that will be fairly easy to find on the indexes.

Thanks for replies. Yes I am using Ancestry. Ok now I'm going to sound really dumb. Do I have to put Palmer into the search and then I presume I have to put the first quater of 1937 and search through all the Palmers. Then if not successful I have to put the 2nd quarter into the search and look through all of those until I find her?

When searching the complete indexes, put in the surname and a year; this will bring up the relevant pages for each quarter. Then click on the image symbol to bring up the scan of the index.

You could put in a range of years but this can be confusing as it will bring lots of pages.

Sometimes, a quarter will not be listed. This is probably because an out of order name has been added at the bottom of the page and this has (incorrectly) been used as the last name. To get round this, play around with the surname, putting in one a bit in front or a bit behind alphabetically and then go backwards or forwards with the images until the page comes up.

For marriages and deaths for that period you will have to search the complete indexes. Freebmd does have some marriages for the 1920s and more are being added every month.

I would try looking for the marriage first on freebmd (using Palmer as it is the more common name). If you don't find it, make a list of the quarters/years that give no results and just search those quarters on the complete index.
