Shelly, there is only one place to get the records from, the MOD (Ministry of Defence). I must say that I also had to provide a copy of my grandfathers death certificate and also my mothers marriage certificate to prove she was his daughter.

Maybe it depends which person deals with your application when they received it, a proper Jobsworth must have processed mine!

I have just sent for my uncles records and had a nice letter to say they had a back log and we would have to wait about 6 months which was ok ,i would do it if i were you they dont need proof of who you are or if you are next of kin , you wouldnt be lying when you put on the form that your husband is his son cos he is, so what if the name is different many woman in the war years never married the fathers anyway , they trust you and he is the son so go for it and good luck, let us know what happened

You need to go to http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html You download the form and send it off with £30. They say it takes up to 7 months, but we did the same to get my father-in-laws papers and it took about 5 months. We weren't asked for any proof that we are next of kin, they did it on trust.

I can't see that he would be given access to them - -there doesn't seem to be any proof that they are connected in any way, and I think the Army will ask for that. Not sure how you know who is his father, if his name isn't on the birth cert, so if you have any documentary evidence, perhaps this would help. Worth a try, though!.

and ask them to emil you the forms you need to get your fathers war records they will emil you everthing you need within a day or so.

you can then print the forms of and send them.

i have just done this for my grandad.

you will need a copy of his death cert.if your not his next of kin the you will need writen permission from them.

it cost £30 and it said it can take up to 7 months for the records.

as far as i know if he is an only child and he has not got a wife some where who is alive then he is next of kin

Help needed please. l'm going to try and get copies of my husbands fathers army records.

We know his name his d.o.b. and when he died. But my husband is illegitimate and his fathers name is not on his birth certificate. He was never married to my husbands mother, and we are still trying to trace her, she left him to be fostered at at few weeks old.

We know his father never went on to have any other children.

Would the Army allow my husband the records, and how do l go about it?
