In the 1851 census there is a Mary Hooton born Woodley. Is the name anything like that? |

I'd ring up the GRO (or the register office) where you bought the certificate and ask them to decipher it for you. They are pretty good at helping and are more used to reading poor copies. |

If you go to Cheshire bmd and put in the details of the person whose certificate you have just got it will show the maiden name (assuming they are also from Cheshire!) |

Got a birth cert yesterday and mothers maiden name ain't that readable. |
