Aw, I know - not a cheap hobby at all. When I first started I was spending a fortune every month on certs as I was ordering 10-15 certs at a time!! Now I limit myself to just 2 per month which is a bit more sensible and not so draining on the bank account LOL.

I still have hundreds of certs on my "To Buy" list - and no sooner do I cross a couple off when more are added to it. It's never-ending!

Anyway, at least you have the info there for when you can afford to buy the cert. Just being able to confirm the marriage is something, anyway.

All the best - Athena

yeh definately a relief to find that they were married. I'll have to order it when I can, My list is getting longer for the certificates I want to order, if only getting a job was this easy. LOL

It was on Ancestry - the full index pages.

Glad you're excited about it - I thought you might be LOL

Hi Gypsyjoe

Here is the marriage entry you need:

1933 -
Albert G Foley - spouse surname Bailey
District: London C.
June qtr
Vol 1c page 37.

Hope that's helped!

Thanks,

I was under the understanding from my uncle that they were married but maybe that's what they were led to believe.

Jim, if you mean doing a complete seach on ancestry by paying (I only have the free bit at the moment) well I guess that'll have to wait till I get a job. :-( so I have some money to do those things.

Potty I have used your suggestion for others I'm searching for, it's just these two seem to be very elusive.

I might leave that one for now and try one of the other braches and come back to it later.

Hi Gypsyjoe.

They may well have never married at all, or married after their children were born, so don't stop at 1934.

Some of my husband's great great grandparents didn't marry until their children were adult. They crept off for a day out in another town about 30 miles away and did the deed there, so I guess it was a secret from their children that they weren't married.

Keep trying and the best of luck to you for your research.

It is pointless looking at freebmd and its copy on ancestry they do not cover those years.
You need the complete bmd on ancestry.

Freebmd marriages only go up to 1929 at the moment but are not complete for 1924 to 1929.

Have you been looking on the full index on Ancestry?

I would first search for Bailey marriages 1924-1929 on freebmd, making a note of any quarters that have no results (it's a fairly common name so if there are no results you can assume the quarter isn't transcribed yet) and then search the missing quarters on the full index.

After that, it is a trawl through the rest of the complete index.

Hope someone can help me.

Were else can I look for my grandparents marriage record? I have looked on both Freebmd and ancestry.com and come up with no results.

I have no idea when they were married but since my Uncle was born in 1934 it had to be before that. I have been searching for the years between 1924 and 1934.

Marion (nee Bailey, middle name Jane) was born in 1904, my grandfather Albert George Foley in 1909. She was born in Blackpool and was Church of England, he was born in Bethnal Green and was Catholic. Is there a chance that maybe they never were married? What does everyone think?
