Hi Carole

UK death certificates do not give parents names.

On a UK death certificate, you will find

Name of person (as known to informant)
Age of person (as known to informant)
Address where dead person lived
Marital status (may get widow/er of .., wife/husband of ....; as known to informant)
Where person died
Cause of death
Whether inquest was held
Name of coroner if inquest held
Name of Informant
Possible relationship of informant
Address of informant

As you can see ............ there are several places where the information may not be completely correct, as they depend on what the informant knew!

Thank you again everyone. I have used the 'trying to find' but have had no replies.
My grandmother was Florence Ellen Day born in Lytham 1896. Don't know if they were married in UK or Canada or at all??? No confirmation anywhere either way. I have my mothers christening cert.
Do death certs give birth details or any parents names as well? I have someone looking for James' death information in Bournemouth, if it is there.

I will keep on trying.
Thanks.
Carole

Here we have people who will look up just about everything, and have subscription to other sites so you dont need to spend out. If you put your relative details on the trying to find board, you will get help.

Once you put a question, hang around for a few minutes for people to ask leading questions. If you cant find the replies go to My Threads and that records all your replies.
Read the help and advice on all the boards and dont be afraid to join in.

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

This is a free site for Birth, Marriages and Deaths but only goes up to about 1920's. Work is done by volunteers.

After that date you need access to Ancestry or Findmypast - both are pay to view sites. Usually members with subscriptions to either site will help with lookups.

Too many James Hassall born between 1891 and 1901 to make an educated guess as to which one he could be.

If you could find more info than it might be worth getting a free 14 day trial on Ancestry.

Thanks for the quick replies Glitter Baby and Linda.
I don't have any certificates, that is my problem. It is all just from putting a few photos and memories together.

Thanks also re the subscription info.

Hi Carole,

Your subscription to the site only allows you to contact other members on here, not access to any records.

If you are entering Names and year of birth in the search trees option it will only come up with a match if someone else has that person in their tree.

Hope I'm making sense

Hi Carole,

Welcome to the boards.

Post whatever info you have - possibly backed up by certificates - and the members might be able to help.

Good luck,

I am a new member of GR and am learning my way around the site.

1. I need help on finding information on my grandfather of whom I have very limited knowledge. I get no matches when using approximate dates and places so need direction please. He would have been born approx 1890's in possibly either northern England or Wales. I have a photo of him taken in Canada about 1922, and my mother was born in Toronto in 1925. I believe the family went back to Bournemouth area about 1928 and he died sometime mid 1930's. Not alot to go on.

2. I am on an annual subscription to GR and can't access any records without buying credits. Is there a subscription that includes access to records? I am in Australia.

3. I have entered definite names, years, etc of births etc of family members and come up with no information. Why would this be when I have proof of the facts but can't get anything on GR?

As you can see I am quite a novice but want to learn more and be able to use the site successfully. I find it very interesting.

I would be interested in any helpful advice please.
