I have recently discovered my GGG Grandfather is French.
His name is Anthony Barre and on the 1861 census he is down as born 1823 in France.
He was married 3 times all in the London area and died in 1873 age 50 in Kensington.

He had two children by his first wife, Louise Le Coustre, Irene born 1848 in Marylebone and Elvira born 1851 in Paris. His first wife died c1861.
He had a further two children by my GGG Grandmother, Emma Quinney, whom he never married, Emma Alexandra Barre born 1863 in St Pancras and Charles Anthony Barre Quinney born 1865 in St Pancras.
Shortly before Charles' birth he married his second wife Mary Pope in Kensington, she died in the second quarter of 1871, again in Kensington, although I can find no trace of Anthony on the 1871 census.
He married for a third a final time to Marie De Wischan in the second quarter of 1873 which was also the quarter in which he died.

I have his fathers name, Bartholemew Barre, who was described as a 'gentleman' on Anthony's marriage certificate to Mary Pope.

If anyone could find him in the 1851 or 71 census' it might help to track down his exact place of birth, or if anyone knows of any websites that deal with French genealogy that would also be great.

Thanks, Nicki
